A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Take a break from the city and head to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. Bring the kids along to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Palm Cove Beach. Go for a jaunt from Cairns to Herberton to see Historic Village Herberton about 1h 30 min away. There's much more to do: trek along Esplanade Boardwalk, take in the exciting artwork at Bones and Jones, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Monica's Cathedral.
