Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Go for a jaunt from Hobart to Brighton to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary about 30 minutes away. There's much more to do: take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington, contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site, take in the pleasant sights at Battery Point Sculpture Trail, and see the interesting displays at Mona.

Traveling by car from Tarraleah to Hobart takes 2 hours. In January in Hobart, expect temperatures between 26°C during the day and 14°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Sun) so you can drive to Port Arthur.
