A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Take a break from the city and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and The Jack Barnes Bicentennial Mangrove Boardwalk. When in Cairns, make a side trip to see Palm Cove Beach in Palm Cove, approximately 32 minutes away. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, trek along Esplanade Boardwalk, and admire the landmark architecture of Freshwater Station.

Kolkata (Calcutta), India to Cairns is an approximately 15.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight.
