Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Head to Salamanca Market and Hammer and Hand Metal Galleryfor some retail therapy. Take a break from the city and head to Mount Wellington and Long Beach. Step out of Hobart to go to Brighton and see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately 30 minutes away. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art, snap pictures at Richmond Bridge, tour the pleasant surroundings at Bellerive Beach, and admire the natural beauty at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

You can drive from Coles Bay to Hobart in 2.5 hours. Another option is to do a combination of taxi and bus. In December in Hobart, expect temperatures between 24°C during the day and 13°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Fri) early enough to travel to Melbourne.
