Esperance is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720km east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. Start off your visit on the 12th (Sat): kick back and relax at Cape Le Grand National Park. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Esperance Stonehenge, enjoy the sand and surf at Lucky Bay, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Twilight Bay.

Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Perth in January; daily highs in Esperance reach 32°C and lows reach 17°C. Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Mon): examine the collection at National Anzac Centre, explore and take pictures at Replica of the Brig Amity, and then stroll through Greens Pool. Keep things going the next day: explore the striking landscape at The Gap and Natural Bridge, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Cheynes Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Little Beach.

You can drive from Esperance to Albany in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or take a bus. Traveling from Esperance in January, you will find days in Albany are a bit cooler (29°C), and nights are about the same (16°C). Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Margaret River.

Margaret River

A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Venture out of the city with trips to Busselton Jetty (in Busselton) and Meelup Beach (in Dunsborough). Spend the 16th (Wed) on a tasty journey with a beer tour and tasting. There's still lots to do: indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour, Head underground at Lake Cave, and stop by Gabriel Chocolate.
