Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and Hobart Convict Penitentiary. Battery Point Sculpture Trail and Cascades Female Factory Historic Site are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with a short trip to Okines Beach in Dodges Ferry (about 38 minutes away). Next up on the itinerary: kick back and relax at Opossum Bay Beach and stroll through Hinsby Beach.

Step out of the city life by going to Bondi Beach and Coogee Beach. Kids will appreciate attractions like Manly Beach and Clovelly. Step out of Sydney to go to Manly and see Shelly Beach, which is approximately 36 minutes away. The adventure continues: see a show at Sydney Opera House, wander the streets of Darling Harbour, appreciate the extensive heritage of The Rocks, and enjoy the sand and surf at Camp Cove.

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
On the 16th (Sat), see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour. On the next day, look for all kinds of wild species at Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, then tour the pleasant surroundings at Trinity Beach, and then kick back and relax at Palm Cove Beach.
