A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Take a break from the city and head to Agincourt Reef and Scuba & Snorkeling. Step off the beaten path and head to Trinity Beach and Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. Change things up with these side-trips from Cairns: Birdworld Kuranda (in Kuranda) and Spas (in Port Douglas). Next up on the itinerary: soar above the sights with a balloon tour, explore and take pictures at The Jack Barnes Bicentennial Mangrove Boardwalk, tour the pleasant surroundings at Esplanade Boardwalk, and make a trip to Henry Ross Lookout.

Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Coolangatta Beach and City Botanic Gardens. Step out of the city life by going to Burleigh Heads Beach and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Venture out of the city with trips to Slideways - Go Karting Gold Coast (in Nerang), Pelican Feeding (in Labrador) and SkyPoint Climb (in Surfers Paradise). The adventure continues: get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, explore the striking landscape of Burleigh Head National Park, explore and take pictures at Suncorp Stadium, and enjoy the sand and surf at Moffat Beach.
