A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cairns: Palm Cove (Palm Cove Beach & Spas & Wellness). Spend the 16th (Tue) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 18th (Thu) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. A lush headland that's part of the forested Daintree Region, Cape Tribulation was so named by Lieutenant--later Captain--Cook in 1770, when his ship ran aground in the area.
On the 20th (Sat), explore and take pictures at Cape Trib Farm, then go for a walk through Marrdja Botanical Walk, and then delve into the lush surroundings at Daintree Rainforest - Cooper Creek Wilderness. Here are some ideas for day two: kick back and relax at Thornton Beach, kick back and relax at Myall Beach, and then hike along Dubuji Boardwalk.

Traveling by bus from Cairns to Cape Tribulation takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. In July, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Sun) so you can travel to Port Douglas.
