A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
We've included these beaches for you: Palm Cove Beach and Trinity Beach. Get outdoors at Scuba & Snorkeling and Esplanade Boardwalk. Go for a jaunt from Cairns to Palm Cove to see Hartley's Crocodile Adventures about 44 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: pause for some serene contemplation at St Monica's Cathedral, get into the urban bustle at Tanks Arts Centre, and take in the exciting artwork at Underart Gallery.

Mount Gambier to Cairns is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus, train, and flight; or drive. When traveling from Mount Gambier in December, plan for somewhat warmer days and much hotter nights in Cairns: temperatures range from 36°C by day to 26°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Wed) to allow time to drive to Port Douglas.

Port Douglas

A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.
Take a break from the city and head to Daintree Discovery Centre and Scuba & Snorkeling. Kids will enjoy Four Mile Beach and Safaris. There's lots more to do: look for gifts at Coffee Works, explore the gorgeous colors at Agincourt Reef, and do a tasting at Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery.

Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
On the 31st (Mon), identify plant and animal life at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, then admire the masterpieces at Queensland Art Gallery, and then contemplate the long history of Victoria Bridge Abutment. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 1st (Tue): explore the world behind art at GOMA, see the interesting displays at Queensland Museum & Sciencentre, and then contemplate the waterfront views at The Brisbane River.

You can do a combination of shuttle and flight from Port Douglas to Brisbane in 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of shuttle, flight, and bus; or drive. Traveling from Port Douglas in December, expect Brisbane to be little chillier, temps between 32°C and 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Tue) early enough to drive to Noosa.

Known for its "green" development and north-facing beach, Noosa is a natural getaway.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Noosa Main Beach and Mooloolaba Beach. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Artisans Gallery and Hastings Street. Get out of town with these interesting Noosa side-trips: Mount Ninderry (in Yandina) and Maroochydore, Sunshine Plaza (in Maroochydore).
