A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Kids will enjoy Palm Cove Beach and Trinity Beach. Historic Village Herberton and McLeod Street Pioneer Cemetery will appeal to history buffs. Step out of Cairns to go to Palm Cove and see Annie's Ladies Boutique, which is approximately 34 minutes away. Spend the 4th (Thu) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 5th (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. The adventure continues: hike along Esplanade Boardwalk and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Monica's Cathedral.

Cape Tribulation

A lush headland that's part of the forested Daintree Region, Cape Tribulation was so named by Lieutenant--later Captain--Cook in 1770, when his ship ran aground in the area.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Mon): tour the pleasant surroundings at Dubuji Boardwalk, then stroll through Myall Beach, and then stroll through Thornton Beach. On your second day here, explore the striking landscape of Daintree National Park.
