Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Get in touch with nature at Cataract Gorge Reserve and The Tamar Valley. Visit Woolmers Estate and Entally Estate for their historical value. Step out of Launceston with an excursion to Goaty Hill Wines in Kayena--about 36 minutes away. Sydney to Launceston is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Traveling from Sydney in October, expect Launceston to be a bit cooler, temps between 20°C and 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 14th (Mon) so you can travel to St Helens.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Get a sense of the local culture at Gala Estate Vineyard and Spiky Bridge. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Wineglass Bay Lookout and Coles Bay Jetty. Step out of Coles Bay with an excursion to Melshell Oysters in Swansea--about 46 minutes away. Spend the 18th (Fri) exploring nature at Freycinet National Park. Next up on the itinerary: enjoy the sand and surf at Friendly Beaches and tour the pleasant surroundings at Honeymoon Bay.
