Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Relax by the water at Long Beach and Bellerive Beach. Museum-lovers will appreciate Mona and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Step out of Hobart to go to Brighton and see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately 30 minutes away. There's still lots to do: shop like a local with Salamanca Market, stop by Brunacci Avalon Market, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington, and contemplate the long history of Hobart Convict Penitentiary.
