Lent iconic status as a result of its famous bridge and opera house, Sydney has a down-to-earth charm that enhances its spectacular setting and functional efficiency.
Kids will enjoy Palm Beach and Shelly Beach. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Wentworth Falls and The Giant Stairway. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sydney: Terrigal Beach (in Terrigal) and Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventures (in Glenworth Valley). Named after Lord Byron's grandfather, Byron Bay is not only famous as the easternmost point of Australia, but even more so as one of the liveliest vacation spots in the country.
Attractions like Burleigh Head National Park and Greenmount Beach make great kid-friendly stops. Step off the beaten path and head to Stand-Up Paddleboarding and Broken Head Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Byron Bay side-trips: Springbrook National Park (in Springbrook), Tropical Fruit World (in Duranbah) and Lighthouse Beach (in Ballina).
