A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Take a break from the city and head to Meelup Beach and Jewel Cave. You'll get in some beach time at Hamelin Bay and Surfers Point. Venture out of the city with trips to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse (in Augusta) and Ngilgi Cave (in Yallingup). Next up on the itinerary: Head underground at Mammoth Cave, indulge your taste buds at Food & Drink, stroll through Cowaramup Bay, and indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area.

Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Bring the kids along to Middleton Beach and Little Beach. Get outdoors at Greens Pool and Ellen Cove Boardwalk. Change things up with these side-trips from Albany: Cheynes Beach (in Waychinicup National Park), The Denmark Heritage Cider Company (in Scotsdale) and Cosy Corner Beach (in Kronkup). Next up on the itinerary: pause for some photo ops at Desert Mounted Corps Memorial, take in the dramatic natural features at The Gap and Natural Bridge, and see the interesting displays at National Anzac Centre.
