A planned city with streets laid out in elaborate, geometric patterns and founded specifically to serve as the capital of the emerging Australian state, Canberra has a self-sufficient atmosphere.
Head to Canberra Centre and Trove Canberrafor some retail therapy. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Australian War Memorial and St John the Baptist Church. Go for a jaunt from Canberra to Paddys River to see Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex about 46 minutes away. Spend the 12th (Wed) exploring nature at Namadgi National Park. There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, explore the world behind art at National Gallery of Australia, steep yourself in history at Mugga-Mugga Cottage, and indulge your thirst for a good beer at Tortured Gum Brewery.

For reviews, photos, more things to do, and other tourist information, refer to the Canberra online travel planner .
