A planned city with streets laid out in elaborate, geometric patterns and founded specifically to serve as the capital of the emerging Australian state, Canberra has a self-sufficient atmosphere.
You'll explore and learn at Australian War Memorial and Bungendore Wood Works Gallery. Do your shopping at Macenmist Black Truffles & Wines and Scott Leggo Gallery. Venture out of the city with trips to Tootsie (in Yass) and Village Antiques (in Bungendore). There's much more to do: view the masterpieces at Strathnairn Gallery, get a sense of history and politics at Parliament of Australia, explore the galleries of Drill Hall Gallery, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St John the Baptist Church.
