A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Step off the beaten path and head to Michaelmas Cay and Spas & Wellness. Get outdoors at Scuba & Snorkeling and Four Mile Beach. Take a break from Cairns with a short trip to Sunday Market Port Douglas in Port Douglas, about 1h 25 min away.

Discover out-of-the-way places like Moffat Beach and West End. Do some cultural sightseeing at Queen Street Mall and Queensland Art Gallery. There's lots more to do: browse the collection at State Library Of Queensland, steep yourself in history at Boggo Road Gaol, kick back and relax at Shorncliffe Beach, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Catholic Old St. Stephen's Church (chapel).
