McLaren Vale is a small rural town in South Australia famous for producing world class red wine. Step off the beaten path and head to Horseshoe Bay and Mt Jagged Wines. National Railway Museum Port Adelaide and South Australian Maritime Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Venture out of the city with trips to Carrick Hill (in Mitcham), Adelaide Gaol (in Thebarton) and Adelaide (Waterfall Gully & North Terrace). There's more to do: kick back and relax at Aldinga Beach and do a tasting at Wirra Wirra Vineyards.

One of the cities of the Barossa Valley wine-producing region, Tanunda has an easygoing atmosphere stemming from its close connection with agriculture and viniculture.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Yelland & Papps and Kabminye Winery. Explore Tanunda's surroundings by going to National Motor Museum (in Birdwood) and Gorge Wildlife Park (in Cudlee Creek). There's still lots to do: learn about winemaking at Chateau Dorrien.

Traveling by car from McLaren Vale to Tanunda takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or do a combination of bus and train. In December, daily temperatures in Tanunda can reach 33°C, while at night they dip to 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Mon) so you can go by car to Coober Pedy.

The population of Coober Pedy exploded after the discovery of opals in 1915.
On the 25th (Tue), admire the landmark architecture of Faye's Underground Home, pause for some serene contemplation at Catacomb Church, then identify plant and animal life at Josephine's Gallery & Kangaroo Orphanage, and finally take an in-depth tour of Umoona Opal Mine & Museum. On the 26th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Peter & Pauls underground Catholic Church, then get engrossed in the history at Old Timers Mine, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Serbian Orthodox Church, and finally admire nature's extreme beauty at Breakaways Conservation Park.

The town of Clare is located in South Australia in the Mid North region, 136 km north of Adelaide. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Vine Art Studio, Gallery & Therapeutic Massage and Crabtree Watervale Wines. Popular historic sites such as Bungaree Station and Martindale Hall Heritage Museum are in your itinerary. Step out of Clare to go to Burra and see Burra Railway Station, which is approximately 32 minutes away. It doesn't end there: do a tasting at Kilikanoon Winery and trek along Riesling Trail.
