Lent iconic status as a result of its famous bridge and opera house, Sydney has a down-to-earth charm that enhances its spectacular setting and functional efficiency.
Your inner history buff will appreciate The Rocks and Nan Tien Temple. Get outdoors at Bondi Beach and Bondi to Coogee Beach Coastal Walk. There's much more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Manly Beach, get some thrills on the water with a speed boat tour, enjoy the sand and surf at Clovelly, and get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

The state of Victoria crown jewel, Melbourne boasts shaded streets, leafy residential neighborhoods, vibrant street life, and a picturesque city center.
Step off the beaten path and head to Ballarat Wildlife Park and Art Gallery of Ballarat. Shrine of Remembrance and National Gallery of Victoria are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Venture out of the city with trips to Dandenong Ranges National Park (in Dandenong) and Eastern Beach Reserve (in Geelong). And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Melbourne Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of St Paul's Cathedral, contemplate the long history of Old Melbourne Gaol, and wander the streets of Degraves Street.

Traveling by flight from Sydney to Melbourne takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Traveling from Sydney in September, things will get a bit cooler in Melbourne: highs are around 63°F and lows about 44°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Brisbane.

Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
You'll get in some beach time at Burleigh Head National Park and Kirra Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Queensland Art Gallery and Caloundra Lighthouses. Get out of town with these interesting Brisbane side-trips: Natural Bridge (in Springbrook), Scuba & Snorkeling (in Mooloolaba) and Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve (in Maleny). There's more to do: identify plant and animal life at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and make a trip to Boggo Road Gaol.
