Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Hobart Convict Penitentiary and Richmond Bridge. Visit Cascade Brewery and Constitution Dock for their historical value. Change things up with a short trip to Tahune Forest AirWalk in Geeveston (about 1h 15 min away). There's much more to do: examine the collection at Mawson's Hut Replica Museum, get great views at Mount Nelson Lookout, enjoy the sand and surf at Bellerive Beach, and stop by Hammer and Hand Metal Gallery.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry.
