Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Change things up with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton (about 30 minutes away). On the 11th (Sat), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. The adventure continues: take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, explore the world behind art at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, see the interesting displays at Museum of Old and New Art, and go for a walk through Battery Point Sculpture Trail.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Fri): walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and then don't miss a visit to Bicheno Blowhole. On your second day here, look for all kinds of wild species at Freycinet National Park.

Traveling by car from Port Arthur to Coles Bay takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) early enough to drive to Launceston.
