Hobart

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Maria Island National Park and North Hobart. Step out of Hobart with an excursion to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton--about 30 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: admire the natural beauty at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, take in the spiritual surroundings of St. David's Cathedral, get great views at Shot Tower, and take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington.

To see where to stay, ratings, traveler tips, and tourist information, use the Hobart trip planning website .

Melbourne to Hobart is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry and bus. Expect a daytime high around 15°C in June, and nighttime lows around 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Port Arthur.
