Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary and Seahorse World. Escape the urban bustle at Platypus House and The Tamar Valley. Step out of Launceston with an excursion to Westmorland Falls in Mole Creek--about 1h 30 min away. Coles Bay

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Step out of the city life by going to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Freycinet National Park. You'll get in some beach time at Friendly Beaches and Coles Bay Jetty. Go for a jaunt from Coles Bay to Bicheno to see East Coast Natureworld about 32 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout, stroll through Honeymoon Bay, learn about winemaking at Devil's Corner Cellar Door, and experience rural life at Freycinet Marine Farm.

Surrounded by shark-infested waters and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of land, Port Arthur ranks among Australia's top historical sites and heritage areas.
On the 17th (Mon), tour the pleasant surroundings at Three Capes Track, then identify plant and animal life at Tasmanian Devil Unzoo, then hike along Waterfall Bay, and finally explore and take pictures at Tessellated Pavement. On your second day here, admire the majestic nature at Lime Bay State Reserve.

Drive from Coles Bay to Port Arthur in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In December in Port Arthur, expect temperatures between 24°C during the day and 13°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Tue) so you can go by car to Hobart.
