Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Step off the beaten path and head to Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and Food Tours. Step out of Hobart with an excursion to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton--about 30 minutes away. There's lots more to do: go for a walk through Battery Point Sculpture Trail, see the interesting displays at Mawson's Hut Replica Museum, contemplate the long history of Hobart Convict Penitentiary, and snap pictures at Richmond Bridge.
