Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Maria Island National Park and Bellerive Beach. Step out of the city life by going to Tahune Forest AirWalk and Nutgrove Beach. When in Hobart, make a side trip to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, approximately 30 minutes away. There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. David's Cathedral, enjoy the sand and surf at Kingston Beach, and steep yourself in history at Cascades Female Factory Historic Site.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In February, Hobart is a bit cooler than Sydney - with highs of 26°C and lows of 14°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Mon) early enough to drive to Port Arthur.

Surrounded by shark-infested waters and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of land, Port Arthur ranks among Australia's top historical sites and heritage areas.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Tue): get to know the fascinating history of Port Arthur Historic Site, kick back and relax at Fortescue Bay, and then appreciate the history behind Dog Line. On the next day, contemplate the long history of Coal Mines Historic Site, explore the striking landscape at Tessellated Pavement, and then trek along Three Capes Track.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Get a sense of the local culture at Cape Tourville Lighthouse and Devil's Corner Cellar Door. Get in touch with nature at Freycinet National Park and Melshell Oysters. Take a break from Coles Bay with a short trip to Spiky Beach Conservation Area in Swansea, about 32 minutes away. There's much more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Friendly Beaches, learn about winemaking at Gala Estate Vineyard, and stroll through Wineglass Bay Lookout.

Visiting Tamar Island Wetlands and Lilydale Falls will get you outdoors. Get some cultural insight at Woolmers Estate and Brickendon Colonial Farm Village. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Launceston: Barnbougle Dunes (in Bridport) and Liffey Falls (in Deloraine). On the 13th (Wed), admire all the interesting features of Alum Cliffs, Head underground at Marakoopa Cave, then Head underground at Mole Creek Caves, and finally delve into the lush surroundings at Westmorland Falls. On the next day, identify plant and animal life at Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, then stop by The Emporium, and then take in the pleasant sights at Tasmania’s Town of Murals.

Ulverstone is a town on the northern coast of Tasmania, Australia on the mouth of the Leven River, on Bass Strait. Step off the beaten path and head to Marion's Lookout Walk and Gunns Plains Caves. Step out of the city life by going to Wings Wildlife Park and Leven Canyon. Step out of Ulverstone with an excursion to Dove Lake Circuit in Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park--about 1h 20 min away. Next up on the itinerary: identify plant and animal life at Lillico Beach Conservation Area, admire the sheer force of Preston Falls, and relax in the rural setting at Turners Beach Berry Patch.
