Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Take a break from the city and head to Opossum Bay Beach and Nature & Wildlife Tours. Discover out-of-the-way places like North Hobart and Sullivans Cove. Change things up with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton (about 30 minutes away). And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Museum of Old and New Art, enjoy the sand and surf at Kingston Beach, and indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area.

Brisbane to Hobart is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of car and ferry. Venture out of the city with trips to Melshell Oysters (in Swansea) and Spring Vale Wines (in Cranbrook). Spend the 19th (Tue) exploring nature at Freycinet National Park. George Town is a large town in north-east Tasmania, on the eastern bank of the mouth of the Tamar River. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Goaty Hill Wines and Tamar Valley Art Shack. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Ghost Rock Tasmania and Don River Railway. Change things up with these side-trips from George Town: Mole Creek (Marakoopa Cave & Mole Creek Caves), Wings Wildlife Park (in Gunns Plains) and Leven Canyon (in Ulverstone).
