Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Visit Woolmers Estate and The Old Umbrella Shop for their historical value. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Goaty Hill Wines and Gourlay's Sweet Shop. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Launceston: Bridport Walking Track (in Bridport), Clarendon House (in Evandale) and Pipers Brook Vineyard (in Pipers Brook). There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Cataract Gorge Reserve, take in the views from Alexandra Suspension Bridge, take in the dramatic scenery at Lilydale Falls, and stroll through City Park.

You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Wineglass Bay Lookout and Friendly Beaches. Escape the urban bustle at Melshell Oysters and Freycinet National Park. Take a break from Coles Bay with a short trip to Spiky Bridge in Swansea, about 48 minutes away.
