A planned city with streets laid out in elaborate, geometric patterns and founded specifically to serve as the capital of the emerging Australian state, Canberra has a self-sufficient atmosphere.
Step out of Canberra with an excursion to Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex in Paddys River--about 46 minutes away. Spend the 16th (Sat) exploring nature at Namadgi National Park. The adventure continues: get engrossed in the history at Australian War Memorial, admire nature's wide array of creatures at National Zoo and Aquarium, explore the world behind art at National Portrait Gallery, and get a sense of history and politics at Royal Australian Mint.
