Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Take a break from the city and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Tahune Forest AirWalk. Get a sense of the local culture at Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and Fern Tree. Step out of Hobart to go to Brighton and see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately 30 minutes away. On the 16th (Sat), spend an adventurous day with a kayaking and canoeing tour. And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Seven Mile Beach, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. David's Cathedral, take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington, and learn about winemaking at Puddleduck Vineyard.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Sydney in November: high temperatures in Hobart hover around 22°C and lows are around 11°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 18th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Port Arthur.

Surrounded by shark-infested waters and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of land, Port Arthur ranks among Australia's top historical sites and heritage areas.
Visiting Three Capes Track and Tasmanian Devil Unzoo will get you outdoors. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Maria Island National Park and Tessellated Pavement. Step out of Port Arthur with an excursion to Coal Mines Historic Site in Saltwater River--about 38 minutes away.
