Set against the stark but scenic coastline of the Bass Strait--the body of water separating Victoria and Tasmania--Torquay is a prime location for surfing and beach life in general.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Fisherman's Beach and Won Wondah & Henderson Falls. Take a break from the city and head to Sheoak Falls and Lorne Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Torquay: Lorne (Great Ocean Road Memorial Archway & Erskine Falls). And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Point Impossible Surf Beach, examine the collection at Australian National Surfing Museum, and stroll through Bells Beach.

Warrnambool is a regional centre and former port city on the south-western coast of Victoria, Australia. Step off the beaten path and head to Thunder point Coastal Reserve and Logan's Beach. Escape the urban bustle at Foreshore Promenade and Griffiths Island. Take a break from Warrnambool with a short trip to Griffiths Island Lighthouse in Port Fairy, about 32 minutes away. There's lots more to do: admire the landmark architecture of Warrnambool Breakwater, contemplate the geological forces at Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve, contemplate the waterfront views at Bay of Islands, and examine the collection at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village.

Apollo Bay is a coastal town in southwestern Victoria, Australia. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Red Rock and Carisbrook Waterfall. Step out of the city life by going to Mait's Rest and Carisbrook Creek. Change things up with these side-trips from Apollo Bay: Colac Botanic Gardens (in Colac) and Kennet River Koala Walk (in Kennett River).
