Once just a small port at the mouth of Mooloolah River, Mooloolaba is now a hotbed of tourism and a place more than worth adding to your Sunshine Coast itinerary.

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Mon): discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour. On your second day here, experience rural life at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Palm Cove Beach.

Getting from Mooloolaba to Cairns by combination of bus and flight takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a train. When traveling from Mooloolaba in January, plan for a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Cairns: temperatures range from 89°F by day to 75°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 29th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel to Mossman.
