A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Meelup Beach and Cowaramup Bay. Step out of Margaret River with an excursion to Busselton Jetty in Busselton--about 42 minutes away. Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Wed): examine the collection at National Anzac Centre, do a tasting at Singlefile Wines, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Greens Pool.
