Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Get a sense of the local culture at Queensland Museum & Sciencentre and Queensland Art Gallery. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Dicky Beach and Moffat Beach. There's still lots to do: identify plant and animal life at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, let little ones run wild at South Bank Parklands, explore the world behind art at GOMA, and get in on the family fun at Wheel of Brisbane.

Named after Lord Byron's grandfather, Byron Bay is not only famous as the easternmost point of Australia, but even more so as one of the liveliest vacation spots in the country.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Burleigh Heads Beach and Burleigh Head National Park. Visiting David Fleay Wildlife Park and Cape Byron Walking Track will get you outdoors. Explore Byron Bay's surroundings by going to Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre (in Murwillumbah), Tropical Fruit World (in Duranbah) and Coolangatta Beach (in Coolangatta). And it doesn't end there: meet the residents at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, enjoy the sea views from Cape Byron Lighthouse, identify plant and animal life at Broken Head Nature Reserve, and Head underground at Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Caves.

You can drive from Brisbane to Byron Bay in 2 hours. Other options are to take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. In March, daytime highs in Byron Bay are 32°C, while nighttime lows are 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Sydney.

Do a combination of bus and flight from Byron Bay to Sydney in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In March in Sydney, expect temperatures between 30°C during the day and 22°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Sun) early enough to travel to Melbourne.

Take a break from the city and head to The Great Ocean Road and St. Kilda Beach. Shrine of Remembrance and Royal Exhibition Building are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Spend the 12th (Tue) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour.
