Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Step off the beaten path and head to Tahune Forest AirWalk and St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Change things up with a short trip to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton (about 30 minutes away). The adventure continues: take in the awesome beauty at Mount Wellington, step off the mainland to explore Maria Island National Park, examine the collection at Mona, and enjoy the sand and surf at Bellerive Beach.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In December, Hobart is little chillier than Sydney - with highs of 24°C and lows of 13°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sun) so you can go by car to Coles Bay.
