A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Trinity Beach and Scuba & Snorkeling. Visiting Australian Butterfly Sanctuary and Palm Cove Beach will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Cairns side-trips: Safaris (in Port Douglas) and Spas & Wellness (in Palm Cove).

On the 30th (Tue), explore the world behind art at Gallery of Modern Art, explore and take pictures at Suncorp Stadium, then look for all kinds of wild species at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Nepalese Pagoda. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in nature's colorful creations at Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt. Coot-tha, admire the natural beauty at Roma Street Parkland, and then admire the natural beauty at City Botanic Gardens.

Fly from Cairns to Brisbane in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. Traveling from Cairns in July, things will get slightly colder in Brisbane: highs are around 24°C and lows about 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Wed) to allow time to travel to Sydney.

Sydney Opera House and The Rocks are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Family-friendly places like Bondi Beach and Dolphin & Whale Watching will thrill your kids. Spend the 3rd (Sat) exploring nature at Sydney Harbour National Park.
