A planned city with streets laid out in elaborate, geometric patterns and founded specifically to serve as the capital of the emerging Australian state, Canberra has a self-sufficient atmosphere.
Venture out of the city with trips to Paddys River (Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex & Corin Forest). Spend the 5th (Sun) exploring nature at Namadgi National Park. There's still lots to do: take an in-depth tour of Australian War Memorial, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Burley Griffin, tour the pleasant surroundings at National Zoo and Aquarium, and make a trip to Mount Ainslie Lookout.
