A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Step off the beaten path and head to Trinity Beach and Birdworld Kuranda. Kids will enjoy Scuba & Snorkeling and Muddy's Playground. Step out of Cairns with an excursion to Australian Butterfly Sanctuary in Kuranda--about 36 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: enjoy unforgettable views with a balloon tour and admire the striking features of Freshwater Station.

Glasgow, UK to Cairns is an approximately 26-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of train and flight. A lush headland that's part of the forested Daintree Region, Cape Tribulation was so named by Lieutenant--later Captain--Cook in 1770, when his ship ran aground in the area.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Thornton Beach and Myall Beach. Family-friendly places like Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation Beach will thrill your kids. When in Cape Tribulation, make a side trip to see Cow Bay Beach in Cow Bay, approximately 42 minutes away. It doesn't end there: take a peaceful walk through Daintree Rainforest - Cooper Creek Wilderness.
