A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
Step off the beaten path and head to Surfers Point and Hamelin Bay. We've included these beaches for you: Gnarabup Beach and Yallingup Beach. Explore Margaret River's surroundings by going to Canal Rocks (in Yallingup), Bunker Bay (in Cape Naturaliste) and Hamelin Bay Jetty (in Hamelin Bay). The adventure continues: look for all kinds of wild species at Sunflowers Animal Farm, learn about winemaking at Howard Park - Margaret River Winery and Cellar Door, see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and kick back and relax at Meelup Beach.

Valletta, Malta to Margaret River is an approximately 30-hour combination of bus and flight. You can also do a combination of ferry, taxi, bus, and flight. The time zone changes from Central European Time (CET) to Australian Western Standard Time (AWST), which is usually a 7 hour difference. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Albany.

Albany

Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Your inner history buff will appreciate The Albany Convict Gaol & Museum and The Church of Saint John the Evangelist. Relax by the water at Cheynes Beach and Little Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Albany: Lowlands Beach (in Lowlands), Denmark (Shelley Beach, Anvil Beach, & more) and Cosy Corner Beach (in Kronkup). Next up on the itinerary: kick back and relax at Emu Point, pause for some photo ops at Desert Mounted Corps Memorial, tour the pleasant surroundings at Nanarup Beach, and don't miss a visit to Sharp Point.

Getting from Margaret River to Albany by car takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: take a bus; or do a combination of bus and flight. In January, daytime highs in Albany are 29°C, while nighttime lows are 16°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Esperance.

Esperance is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720km east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Thistle Cove and Blue Haven Beach. You'll get in some beach time at Twilight Bay and Salmon Beach. And it doesn't end there: enjoy the sand and surf at Lucky Bay, steep yourself in history at Esperance Stonehenge, stroll through Hellfire Bay, and make a trip to Esperance Whale Tail.

Drive from Albany to Esperance in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or take a bus. In January, plan for daily highs up to 32°C, and evening lows to 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Thu) so you can travel to Fremantle.

Settled by colonists and convicts in 1829, Fremantle has transformed its infamous historical buildings into cultural centers.
Relax by the water at Rockingham Beach and Warnbro Beach. Get some historical perspective at Fremantle Prison and The Perth Mint. Change things up with a short trip to Mullaloo Beach in Mullaloo (about 42 minutes away). The adventure continues: kick back and relax at City Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at South Beach Recreation Reserve, take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Patrick's Basilica, and don't miss a visit to The Fremantle Round House.

Do a combination of flight and bus from Esperance to Fremantle in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. Traveling from Esperance in January, expect Fremantle to be a bit warmer, temps between 38°C and 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Mon) so you can travel back home.
