Albany

Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like The Albany Convict Gaol & Museum and The Church of Saint John the Evangelist. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Dolphin & Whale Watching and Emu Point. There's much more to do: pause for some photo ops at Desert Mounted Corps Memorial, enjoy the sand and surf at Little Beach, see the interesting displays at National Anzac Centre, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Middleton Beach.

A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
You'll get in some beach time at Surfers Point and Margaret River Mouth Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Brookwood Estate and Brown Hill Estate. Get out of town with these interesting Margaret River side-trips: Yallingup Beach (in Yallingup), Sugarloaf Rock (in Cape Naturaliste) and Meelup Beach (in Dunsborough).
