Surrounded by shark-infested waters and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of land, Port Arthur ranks among Australia's top historical sites and heritage areas.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Port Arthur Historic Site and Coal Mines Historic Site. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Tasmanian Devil Unzoo and Tessellated Pavement. When in Port Arthur, make a side trip to see Waterfall Bay in Eaglehawk Neck, approximately 32 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: trek along Three Capes Track, contemplate the waterfront views at Stewarts Bay, don't miss a visit to The Separate Prison, and steep yourself in history at The Church.

Overlooking one of Tasmania's most scenic strips of coastline and serving as the gateway to Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay is home to just 500 permanent residents.
Cape Tourville Lighthouse and Spiky Bridge will appeal to history buffs. Family-friendly places like Friendly Beaches and Honeymoon Bay will thrill your kids. Get out of town with these interesting Coles Bay side-trips: Spring Vale Wines (in Cranbrook) and Douglas-Apsley National Park (in Bicheno). There's lots more to do: surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour, walk along Wineglass Bay Lookout, kick back and relax at Wineglass Bay, and take in the exciting artwork at Waubs Bay Gallery.

Explore Launceston's surroundings by going to Holm Oak Vineyards (in Rowella), Preston Falls (in Ulverstone) and Fern Glade Reserve (in Burnie).
