A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Get some cultural insight at Daintree Discovery Centre and Underart Gallery. Head to Village Gallery and Doongal Aboriginal Art Gallery Cairnsfor plenty of shopping. Venture out of the city with trips to Palm Cove (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Palm Cove Beach), Thornton Beach (in Thornton Beach) and Port Douglas (Safaris, Sunday Market Port Douglas, & more). Spend the 8th (Mon) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Spend the 15th (Mon) exploring nature at Daintree National Park. There's much more to do: see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, indulge your taste buds at Mossman Saturday Market, view the masterpieces at Floravilla Ice Cream Factory, and buy something for everyone on your list at Stockland Cairns Shopping Centre.

Amsterdam, Holland to Cairns is an approximately 22-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. The time zone changes from Central European Time (CET) to Australian Eastern Standard Time (Queensland) (AEST), which is usually a 9 hour difference. Traveling from Amsterdam in July, things will get a bit warmer in Cairns: highs are around 30°C and lows about 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Mon) so you can travel to Brisbane.

Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Shop till you drop at Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre and Pacific Fair Shopping Centre. We've included these beaches for you: Surfers Paradise Beach and Mooloolaba Beach. Explore Brisbane's surroundings by going to Harbour Town Outlet Shopping Centre (in Biggera Waters), Opals Down Under (in Glenview) and Anthea Polson Art (in Main Beach). You can fly from Cairns to Brisbane in 5.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Cairns in July: high temperatures in Brisbane hover around 24°C and lows are around 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
