Lent iconic status as a result of its famous bridge and opera house, Sydney has a down-to-earth charm that enhances its spectacular setting and functional efficiency.
For shopping fun, head to The Nook or Haigh's Chocolates Strand Arcade. Visiting Jenolan Caves and Featherdale Wildlife Park will get you outdoors. Venture out of the city with trips to Coachwood Glen Nature Trail (in Megalong Valley), Rick Rutherford's Country (in Lawson) and Pulpit Rock Lookout (in Blue Mountains National Park). Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Step off the beaten path and head to Coolangatta Beach and Burleigh Heads Beach. You'll get in some beach time at Mooloolaba Beach and Kings Beach. Explore Brisbane's surroundings by going to Infinity Attraction (in Surfers Paradise), Boomerang Art - Aboriginal Art Gallery (in Southport) and Pacific Fair Shopping Centre (in Broadbeach). There's much more to do: revel in the low prices at Harbour Town Outlet Shopping Centre, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, wander the streets of Queen Street Mall, and browse the different shops at Kawana Shoppingworld.

Named after Lord Byron's grandfather, Byron Bay is not only famous as the easternmost point of Australia, but even more so as one of the liveliest vacation spots in the country.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Cape Byron Walking Track and Lismore Produce Market. Get outdoors at Bundjalung National Park and Lamington National Park, Australia. Change things up with these side-trips from Byron Bay: You and Bamboo (in Bogangar), Broadwater National Park (in Broadwater) and Lismore (Star Court Arcade & Lismore Car Boot Market).
