A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Historic Village Herberton and St Monica's Cathedral. We've included these beaches for you: Four Mile Beach and Thornton Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Cairns side-trips: Palm Cove (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Palm Cove Beach), Port Douglas (Safaris, Horses in Port, & more) and The Bat Hospital Visitor Centre (in Atherton). Spend the 2nd (Sun) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Spend the 16th (Sun) exploring nature at Daintree National Park. Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Popular historic sites such as Chenrezig Institute and Sunshine Castle are in your itinerary. You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Surfers Paradise Beach and Mooloolaba Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Brisbane: James Overall Park (in Southport), Fingal Head Lighthouse (in Fingal Head) and Sea World Theme Park (in Main Beach). Spend the 20th (Thu) with some fine spirits on a distillery tour.
