Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Brisbane is an approximately 25-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. The time zone difference moving from Brasilia Time to Australian Eastern Standard Time (Queensland) is 13 hours. Traveling from Rio de Janeiro in July, things will get little chillier in Brisbane: highs are around 24°C and lows about 11°C. A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Attractions like Scuba & Snorkeling and Michaelmas Cay make great kid-friendly stops. Explore Cairns' surroundings by going to Palm Cove (Hartley's Crocodile Adventures & Palm Cove Beach). There's much more to do: tour the water at your own pace with Shaolin Junk Cruises, tour the pleasant surroundings at Anzac Park, pause for some serene contemplation at St Monica's Cathedral, and trek along Esplanade Boardwalk.

Traveling by flight from Brisbane to Cairns takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. In July, Cairns is a bit warmer than Brisbane - with highs of 30°C and lows of 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Sat) early enough to drive to Port Douglas.

A holiday in Port Douglas balances an activity-filled getaway with plenty of opportunities to relax, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and bustling beach life.

Getting from Port Douglas to Melbourne by combination of shuttle and flight takes about 7.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of taxi and train. Prepare for much colder weather when traveling from Port Douglas in July: high temperatures in Melbourne hover around 15°C and lows are around 6°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 2nd (Thu) to allow time for travel to Sydney.
