Lent iconic status as a result of its famous bridge and opera house, Sydney has a down-to-earth charm that enhances its spectacular setting and functional efficiency.
Head to The Rocks Markets and Sherman Contemporary Art Foundationfor plenty of shopping. Step off the beaten path and head to Nan Tien Temple and Shelly Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Sydney: Illawarra Grevillea Park (in Bulli), Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park (in Calga) and Wollongong (North Wollongong Beach & Grand Pacific Drive - Sydney to Wollongong and Beyond). Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Appreciate the collections at Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre and Brisbane Tramway Museum. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kirra Beach and Burleigh Head National Park. Venture out of the city with trips to Caloundra Lighthouses (in Kings Beach), Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve (in Maleny) and Kondalilla Falls (in Montville). And it doesn't end there: stroll through Kings Beach, kick back and relax at Maroochydore Beach, look for all kinds of wild species at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour.
