The state of Victoria crown jewel, Melbourne boasts shaded streets, leafy residential neighborhoods, vibrant street life, and a picturesque city center.
Step out of the city life by going to Melbourne Zoo and Sandridge Beach. You'll get in some beach time at Half Moon Bay and St. Kilda Beach. Change things up with a short trip to Werribee Open Range Zoo in Werribee (about 42 minutes away). Dedicate the 25th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's much more to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Botanic Gardens, see the interesting displays at Melbourne Museum, make a trip to Flinders Street Station, and enjoy unforgettable views with a balloon tour.

Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 10 hours traveling from London to Melbourne. Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
Get in touch with nature at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and Kings Beach. Visit Mooloolaba Beach and Dicky Beach for some beach relaxation. Step out of Brisbane to go to Buderim and see Buderim Forest Park, which is approximately 2 hours away. The adventure continues: enjoy the sand and surf at Moffat Beach, let the kids burn off some steam at South Bank Parklands, get great views at Mount Coot-tha Lookout, and cruise along Captain Cook Highway.

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Visit Palm Cove Beach and Four Mile Beach for some beach relaxation. Take a break from the city and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Hartley's Crocodile Adventures.
