Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Albany's Historic Whaling Station and National Anzac Centre are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step off the beaten path and head to Lowlands Beach and Cosy Corner Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Albany: Denmark (Lights Beach, Greens Pool, & more) and Cheynes Beach (in Waychinicup National Park).
