The state of Victoria crown jewel, Melbourne boasts shaded streets, leafy residential neighborhoods, vibrant street life, and a picturesque city center.
Shrine of Remembrance and St. Patrick's Cathedral will appeal to history buffs. Visit St. Kilda Beach and Sandridge Beach for some beach relaxation. Get out of town with these interesting Melbourne side-trips: Werribee Open Range Zoo (in Werribee) and Brighton Beach (in Brighton). On the 4th (Thu), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. Dedicate the 7th (Sun) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Flinders once known as Mendi-Moke, is a town south of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located on the Mornington Peninsula at the point where Western Port meets Bass Strait. Relax by the water at Mount Martha Beach and Sorrento Back Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Flinders: Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park (in Pearcedale) and Venus Bay Eco Retreat (in Venus Bay). Set against the stark but scenic coastline of the Bass Strait--the body of water separating Victoria and Tasmania--Torquay is a prime location for surfing and beach life in general.
Get some historical perspective at Split Point Lighthouse and St Mary of the Angels. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Johanna Beach and Eastern Beach Reserve. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Torquay: Point Lonsdale Lighthouse (in Point Lonsdale) and Lorne Beach (in Lorne).
