The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Buley Rockhole and Mindil Beach. Darwin Aviation Museum and Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory will appeal to museum buffs. Take a break from Darwin with a short trip to Florence Falls in Litchfield National Park, about 1h 20 min away. There's still lots to do: view the masterpieces at Mbantua Fine Art Gallery, examine the collection at 1934 Qantas Hangar, and pause for some serene contemplation at St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral.
