The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral and Christ Church Cathedral Darwin. Step off the beaten path and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Magnetic Termite Mounds. Venture out of the city with trips to Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve (in Humpty Doo), Territory Wildlife Park (in Berry Springs) and Litchfield National Park (in Batchelor). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 16th (Fri) at Darwin Waterfront. There's lots more to do: learn about all things military at Darwin Aviation Museum, cool off at Wave Lagoon, race across the water with a speed boat tour, and take in the dramatic scenery at Wangi Falls.

A relaxed town of tree-shaded streets and scenic coastal stretches, Broome gained renown as a center of the pearling industry in the late 19th century.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Reddell Beach and Cable Beach. Get a sense of the local culture at Broome Historical Museum and The Courthouse Collection. Spend the 20th (Tue) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park and Animal Refuge, see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour, enjoy the sand and surf at Roebuck Bay, and take in the dramatic natural features at Gantheaume Point.
